Brant: Hello...
Rob: Brant...
Brant: yeah...
Rob: Hey this is Rob at StonerRock.com...
Brant: Hey what`s up Rob?
Rob: How`s it going?
Brant: Good man, what`s happening?
Rob: ahh...Just wanted to see if I could catch you for a few minutes and talk to you about what`s going on...
Brant: OK...
Rob: ...you got time?
Brant: yeah man, no problem...
Rob: OK...so you are mixing an album today?
Brant: Yeah...
Rob: what are you guys doing, is this the Mondo Generator stuff?
Brant: No this is my own record...
Rob: The Operators?
Brant: Yeah, Brant Bjork and the Operators...
Rob: OK, so this is the second one that Duna`s going to put out next year?
Brant: yes...
Rob: oh, OK...the one that is coming out on vinyl...
Brant: uh-huh...
Rob: ...is that the one that was released last year?
Brant: yeah...
Rob: OK, so it`s basically just coming out on vinyl...
Brant: Right...
Rob: OK...excellent...the new one, you just recorded that one recently then?
Brant: Yeah, I recorded it about two and a half [months] ago and then I just came back up to mix it this week, I`ll probably be mixing it until next Saturday...
Rob: Are you in L.A. right now?
Brant: I`m actually out in Joshua Tree out in the desert...
Rob: ahh, so you guys recorded out there then...
Brant: Yeah...
Rob: Excellent...right on, so this one is going to be released probably in the Spring?
Brant: Late Spring...
Rob: Do you have a title for it?
Brant: Local Angel will be the name of the record...
Rob: How many new songs are you going to release?
Brant: Umm...we have 10 or 11 songs...haven`t really decided yet...
Rob: OK...so there are a couple of tracks that might not make it on anything?
Brant: Yeah...
Rob: Gotcha...right on...so you guys been playing out at all?
Brant: We did a gig about 2 weeks ago in L.A....and that was really cool, and I think we`re scheduled to play a gig at the end of January...
Rob: You know where that one is going to be at?
Brant: You know what, I honestly don`t know...I can`t remember the name of the place(chuckles)...
Rob: haha...right on...so you uh...did you play some drums on the new Mondo Generator record?
Brant: yeah, yeah...Nick and I recorded the basic tracks for that, about the time they were finishing up the new Queens record...
Rob: OK...
Brant: we uh...we just went in and blew out like 10 basic tracks in a day...and I think he`s in the process of putting some guitars and stuff on it...I don`t know for sure but I think the last thing I heard was Ipecac was going to put it out...
Rob: Mike Pattons label...
Brant: right...
Rob: So, you guys are at the studio right now?
Brant: I am...
Rob: just you...
Brant: yeah...
Rob: Operators, anything change with the line-up, or are you the same ol...
Brant: yeah, actually, Molly McGuire and Dave Catching are playing with me on this record...
Rob: Molly`s from Earthlings? right?
Brant: yeah, they`re both from Earthlings? and of course Dave has been around playing in all kinds of bands for years...
Rob: He played with the Queens a couple of years ago on tour...
Brant: Right...
Rob: ...right on, so Spring is going to be the new one...so the record you released last year that is coming out on vinyl, is that going to be a limited edition colored vinyl thing or anything like that?
Brant: Yeah, I don`t know so much it`s going to be colored...but it definitely will be limited...
Rob: A couple thousand or a thousand or something...Anything else you got going on?
Brant: Um...well, we`re getting ready to do Molly`s record probably in January...her bands called...she`s got a little project called `Yellow Number Five` which is basically the same people, its her on Bass, Dave on guitar and me on Drums...Duna`s hoping to release that in...probably about June...June/July...
Rob: Cool...Yellow # 5...I will have to be on the lookout for that.
Brant: yeah...
Rob: What kind of stuff is that?
Brant: Umm...it`s very cool...I mean it`s a,,,I can`t even really describe it really...um...I don`t know, it`s good...hahahhaha...
Rob: I better just wait for it...
Brant: yeah...I`m not going to attempt to try and describe that music to you...
Rob: Excellent...you got me intrigued...is there anything else going on with you? Anything new and exciting? Break any bones or anything like that? hahahhaa...
Brant: oh gosh...considering all the skateboarding I`ve been doing, luckily I haven`t...no, I`ve just been concentrating on organizing the record label and this year we really hope to you know, really start making some records and handling our own thing and that`s about it.
Rob: Are you part of Duna, is that what you are talking about?
Brant: Well, its kind of like the label I pretty much, you know, came up with the whole concept and idea, but I don`t run it... I have a couple of friends who pretty much takes care of everything.
Rob: Supposedly I am getting a couple of Che CD`s from Duna...is this something new?
Brant: Um no, we only did the one record...
Rob: Man`s Ruin...
Brant: right...
Rob: That`s cool, Well I just wanted to catch up and see what you were doing, I don`t want to tie up too much of your time...
Brant: Cool, awesome man...
Rob: I might call and bug you in a couple of months again...
Brant: Yeah, well that`s great! I really dig the whole Stoner Rock web thing...
Rob: hahahha...
Brant: ...the stuff you guys are doing and I think it`s great for all of us musicians and I`m like...I`m not one of those guys that`s like not into the `Stoner Rock` thing you know... I think it`s totally cool you know...
Rob: So you don`t get bummed out on the term...hahahaha...
Brant: No...hahahah...
Rob: It`s not like I go around describing my band as `Stoner Rock`...it`s like calling it grunge or metal anything else...
Brant: right...
Rob: I know a lot of people that take great offense to the term and they really try like hell not to be associated with it and stuff...
Brant: Right, no...it doesn`t bother me at all...sometimes you know...It`s better with a musical movement...the more people involved the more effect you have you know...and just because it`s Stoner Rock it doesn`t mean everyone has to sound like Sabbath...
Rob: right...or Fu Manchu...
Brant: Right...
Rob: Let me just ask you this, you said you`ve been skating a lot right?
Brant: yeah...
Rob: You go to a skatepark, you got a half pipe or...
Brant: Actually there was an empty pool in Palm Springs this summer that we skated quite a bit...you know...There`s an empty ditch out called Avenue 52 out in Coachella that I grew up skateboarding...I just recently went out there with my girlfriend in the last couple days...I hit that...(yawns)...ahh...excuse me for yawning, sorry `bout that...
Rob: ten...ten in the morning! hahahaha...
Brant: yeah...had a long session last night...been skating that...you know...it`s been fun, a lot of skateboarding...
Rob: Do you do a lot of vert then or...
Brant: ehh...not so much...I mean...I eventually get...whatever I can skate...I skate this old 1976 Logan air(jumbled)...it`s kind of what I`m into...
Rob: Ah, so you are into the old school stuff...
Brant: yeah, I just kind of like to go around...
Rob: You like the big ol` fat surf lines kind of stuff...
Brant: Exactly, exactly...
