Micha: What’s up brother? Micha Kite here from StonerRock.com.
Brant: I apologize for it taking so long. I’ve been touring Europe and never made it to a computer. After all, this is stoner rock.
Micha: All of your solo efforts are fairly consistent. I guess its safe to say that you’re just a way mellow dude?
Brant: If you hear a consistency in the sound/production/vibe of my solo records, it’s because I strive to be consistent, musically representing who I am. I am a pretty laid back dude and I do enjoy smoking grass. Naturally, this comes through in my music.
Micha: With all the high profile bands you’ve been in what’s life like for you now?
Brant: Since Kyuss and Fu Manchu, I’ve been concentrating on my music and my record label, Duna Records. I’m working harder than ever and I feel better than ever since I’m finally doing my own thing. Life now is twice the work but all the freedom to do what I feel like doing. I’m stoked.
Micha: I heard you almost didn’t release Local Angel?
Brant: Local Angel... this is what I feel is my most intimate record. I wrote most of these songs at a time when I was really confronting my inner feelings. That might sound sappy but I’m cool with it. When I finally got the courage to record these songs I did it really fast and un-focused, probably cuz I was a little insecure with the material. After sitting on the recording for about two years I realized it didn’t really represent how I was feeling. I knew I had to go back in and do it right or I wouldn’t be able to move forward. So I went back in the studio and stripped it down to exactly what it is. It’s laid back. It’s simple. I like to get mellow and if this record helps people chill and lay back then I’m happy.
Micha: A lot of your lyrics have references to sex and drugs. Are you the “Sex, Drugs and Rock And Roll” type?
Brant: I wouldn’t say I’m a “ sex drugs and r-n-r “ kinda dude in the traditional sense like say Iggy Pop or somebody like that, but I’m down with the good times if you know what I mean?
Micha: Since you play all the instruments on this album which instrument do you prefer?
Brant: Like I’ve said before I don’t have a favorite Instrument or one that I prefer... I dig whatever. Although I must say the guitar is pretty rad.
Micha: I’m completely transfixed by the 1970’s for some reason, and I get the impression that you are too?
Brant: It’s all killer and no filler.
Micha: You’re quick on your feet so to speak, and I gotta ask if the next album is in the can?
Brant: My next record will be with “The Bros” backin’ me. I got a lot of new material and it’s gonna be good.
Micha: What’s a basic day in the life of Brant Bjork?
Brant: Basic day in the life for Brant Bjork.... go listen to Jalamanta from top to bottom.
Micha: Do you have a favorite skate or set of wheels? I’m freakin’ passionate about the old Kryptonics 63.5 CSI’s.
Brant: Favorite skateboard wheels.... Alva rocks and Powell Peralta street bones were cool.
Micha: So, what’s the best pot you’ve smoked?
Brant: I started smoking weed when I was about fourteen I guess… I don’t really remember. The best pot I ever smoked was AK47 in A-dam. It’s goooooood.
